Benidorm Travel Guide

Dolphins performing 15 kilometres from the beach. A 1,800-seat dinner show that rivals Las Vegas at a fraction of the price. Natural swimming pools carved by a mountain river into protected limestone. And Valencia — Spain's most underrated city — two hours away. This is what Benidorm looks like beyond the tower blocks.

Why Benidorm Is More Than a Beach Resort

Benidorm's reputation precedes it — the skyline, the crowds, the all-inclusive hotels on the Levante. What that reputation underrepresents is the range of genuinely excellent experiences reachable within 40 minutes of the resort centre. The Costa Blanca mountains begin where the coastal strip ends, and the contrast is immediate.

Fifteen kilometres inland, the Fuentes del Algar — a Protected Wetland since 2002 — offers cold, crystal-clear swimming in natural limestone pools fed by a mountain aquifer. The same mountains contain the medieval village of Guadalest, perched on a rocky ridge above a reservoir that reflects the surrounding peaks. Two hours north, Valencia — Spain's third-largest city — has a Gothic silk exchange, a Baroque church hiding 2,000 square metres of frescoes, and the restaurant district where paella was invented.

Back in Benidorm itself, Mundomar runs daily shows with bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, and parrots across 60,000 square metres of landscaped parkland — and Benidorm Palace has been delivering Las Vegas-scale entertainment at Spanish prices for nearly 45 years. This guide covers all four.

How to Use This Guide

Each card above links to a dedicated experience guide with full descriptions, verified ratings, practical tips, and direct booking links to GetYourGuide. Every recommended experience has been researched with real review data — ratings and review counts are current as of April 2026.

Planning a 4–5 day stay? The Mundomar morning pairs naturally with an afternoon at Aqualandia next door. The Algar Waterfalls return by early afternoon, leaving the beach free. Save the Benidorm Palace for your last evening.

Doing the Valencia day trip? The Valencia excursion is a full day — 9 to 12 hours from pick-up to drop-off. Plan it mid-stay rather than at the end, and read the food section before departure: the paella window in Valencia opens at 13:00 and closes at 15:00.

Travelling with children? Mundomar is the clear first choice — three shows included, children under 4 free, fully accessible. Benidorm Palace suits families with teenagers (late start at 22:15; children under 8 free). The Algar Waterfalls require good mobility and water shoes — better for older children comfortable on uneven terrain.

Learning Spanish? All our experience guides connect to private Spanish lessons — even basic phrases transform what you hear from guides and locals on the Costa Blanca.
